Contact Officers play a critical role in supporting people who raise concerns about workplace behaviour, including discrimination, harassment, bullying and related issues. Early, informed responses help prevent escalation, reduce organisational risk and support safer, more inclusive workplaces. This full-day, interactive course builds confidence and clarity in the Contact Officer role and covers:

• The role and responsibilities of Contact Officers within organisational policies and procedures
• Core principles underpinning the Contact Officer role
• Identifying prohibited conduct and recognising early warning signs
• Appropriate responses and referral pathways
• Where to seek internal and external support
• An overview of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1998 (Tas) and other relevant legislation

The course uses current case studies and practical scenarios to support real-world application.

It is recommended that Contact Officers refresh their training every two years to maintain capability, confidence and currency with legislative and procedural changes. This half-day refresher course is designed for participants who have previously completed Contact Officer Training and already have a working knowledge of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1998 (Tas). The course provides an opportunity to revisit key concepts, discuss emerging issues and share practical strategies with others in similar roles. Topics include:

• The ongoing role of the Contact Officer in line with organisational policies
• Promoting the Contact Officer role within your workplace
• Management support and escalation pathways
• How stereotypes and assumptions contribute to discrimination
• Updates and key considerations under the Anti-Discrimination Act 1998 (Tas)

This is a free 1 hour seminar to assist managers to better understand their Contact Officers (COs) and how they contribute to the organisation’s compliance and sustainability. COs are an excellent workplace resource when supported effectively, this session will cover:

• Why do you have Contact Officers?
• Understanding the role
• Trouble shooting – does your Contact Officer network work well – why? - Why not?
• Tools and resources to assist
• The seminar content is flexible and can be adapted to the requirements of individual management teams

These complimentary networking sessions provide Contact Officers with an opportunity to connect with others across different organisations, share experiences and exchange practical insights. The session also includes updates on any amendments to the Anti-Discrimination Act 1998 (Tas) and relevant procedural developments.

Eligibility: Open to anyone trained as a Contact Officer by the Office of the Anti-Discrimination Commissioner (or former Equal Opportunity Tasmania) Participants may submit questions or topics for discussion prior to the session.
